“I took that scared little girl with me on this journey and showed her it’s safe and that she was fine the way she was. And through that I felt healed enough to move on, free of the burden of deficiency I’d saddled myself with all those years.”
“The most important thing I do, is to shine a light to help others through the darkness. That is my mission and my purpose.”
Something happened to me 2 ½ years ago that fundamentality changed my life. That something was a job loss after 15 years at the same company. This opened a floodgate of emotions. I was overwhelmed with feelings of inadequacy, anger, sadness, betrayal, and loss.
That day, that hour, in that moment my social relationships, financial support and purpose evaporated.
I found myself wallowing in a sea of devastation. But out of that something magical happened. I decided to challenge myself to do things I never thought possible. I opened my mind and heart and found a new road and new purpose.
To understand how monumental this was, we need to look back, way back. As a child I suffered from stuttering. It affected every part of my life and how I felt about myself. With some guidance from a therapist and hypnotist, I went back in time to my childhood to speak to my little girl self.
I took that scared little girl with me on this journey and showed her it’s safe and that she was fine the way she was. And through that I felt healed enough to move on, free of the burden of deficiency I’d saddled myself with all those years.
I joined social groups and public speaking groups. I volunteered and made unlikely friends. I helped others with their insecurities and so much more. I have a more fulfilled life than ever before. I no longer worry about what other people think of me because I am enough just the way I am.
I sit here today feeling grateful for this journey, and yes, even for the job loss. I am as grateful for the bumps in the road as for the road itself.
