“NOTICE” March 2023

Lori Pratico creator of Girl Noticed Inc. is pleased to announce a new immersive exhibit at d’Art Center, Norfolk VA during Women’s History Month.

South Florida artist and creator of Girl Noticed Inc, Lori Pratico’s exciting collaboration with d’Art Center and Norfolk’s Neon District continues… Lori Pratico, through her Girl Noticed initiative originally collaborated with the Neon Festival in 2018 to paint a mural of four local women who were nominated from their community to be noticed.

During her one week stay Pratico also held community workshops, awarded $1500 in donations to Teens With A Purpose and HOPE House, and presented to the Women’s Studies Program at Old Dominion University. The following year Pratico was invited back to co-curate and judge d’Art Center’s popular all female exhibit Persistence. “In its 5th and closing year Pratico once again will be awarding the ribbons in this prestigious event that historically receives over 600 submissions from over 200 female artists annually.

From March 18th to April 11, 2023, Pratico will premiere her latest installation “NOTICE” a girl noticed exhibit — as an immersive art experience, covering the walls and floor with the names of 110 female artists in D’Art Centers solo exhibition space “The Vault”. The names will be be accompanied by cliche headlines as if to “promote” or “advertise” the artists, signifying how the female artist has never in history been marketed as valuable, and suggesting the viewer reflect on how we value women in today’s society. The names will include female artists who have changed history as well as the names left out of our history and text books, despite their contributions to the art world. Local, female identifying, artists that are changing and adding to our cultural landscape will also be included and each one will have a QR code to lead the viewer to more information. Sound will be installed where the names will be repeated on a loop, and large portraits of notable female contemporary artists will be painted as if seen through the names. Community workshops and educational experiences are available to the public.

A staple of the Norfolk arts community for over 30 years, the D’Art Center is comprised of three galleries, resident artist studios, and multiple activity rooms. d’Art’s 2,200 sq. ft gallery is located at 740 Boush St. Norfolk Virginia, in the heart of the NEON District; Norfolk’s Art District.
